Bearbonez, the moniker for California-based songwriter and producer Kyle Hilmoe, has recently released his latest single, “Don’t Look Back.” This 80s-inspired rock track pays homage to the iconic sounds of The Cars and The Psychedelic Furs, delivering a nostalgic yet fresh listening experience. “Don’t Look Back” features captivating synthesizer melodies that take center stage, a creative choice that adds a unique sci-fi quality to the song’s production.
Kyle Hilmoe, who transitioned from playing drums in San Francisco bands to focusing on the guitar, formed Bearbonez in 2015. His new single draws inspiration from The Cars’ “Just What I Needed” and the complex soundscapes of The Psychedelic Furs. “I really wanted to explore the synthesizer on this song. I love how in the 80s, the synths were more of a backbone to the music than the drums were at times,” Kyle explained. Lyrically, the song explores themes of pleasure and mesmerization, encapsulating a sense of allure and introspection.
Bearbonez’s discography showcases a wide range of genres, from the heavy rock of his debut release to the synth rock of his 2020 EP, “Display of Love.” With “Don’t Look Back,” Kyle continues to demonstrate his ability to pull off dramatic shifts in sound, reminiscent of his musical idols David Bowie and Beck.
“Don’t Look Back” is a testament to Bearbonez’s evolving artistry and his ability to blend nostalgic influences with modern production.
