Shawn Brown – Into the Furious Light

Shawn Brown’s latest EP, Into the Furious Light, is a compelling showcase of his evolution as a singer-songwriter. Produced by Grecco Buratto, known for his work with Shakira and Tegan and Sara, the EP features three tracks that delve into themes of loss, resilience, and redemption.

The opening track, “Hold Fast,” transitions from a gentle acoustic introduction to a powerful, anthemic crescendo, highlighting Brown’s dynamic vocal range and emotive storytelling. “Let Them Love Ya” offers a minimalist arrangement, with Brown’s soulful voice accompanied by the haunting tones of a steel pedal, creating an intimate and reflective atmosphere. The EP concludes with an acoustic rendition of “The Sad Ones,” where the stripped-down instrumentation allows the poignant lyrics to resonate deeply.

Recorded in Portland at The Panther Studio, this EP marks the first collaboration with Shawn Brown Band members Ben Landsverk, Jeff Langston, and Ned Failing, adding a cohesive and authentic sound to the project. The artwork, crafted by San Francisco photographer Joshua Singh, complements the introspective nature of the music, enhancing the overall experience.

Into the Furious Light stands as a testament to Shawn Brown’s ability to blend folk, indie rock, and soft rock elements seamlessly, resulting in a collection that is both sonically rich and emotionally profound. This EP not only solidifies his place in the contemporary indie scene but also offers listeners a deeply personal and cinematic journey through the complexities of the human experience.
